MODULE 2

Module 2: Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Students' English Skills

The second module was very fascinating. By this point, I had more knowledge about how to use some AI tools. However, I was curious about the new things that would come during this module, but also a little worried that the content might be complicated. Additionally, I thought we would continue working with the same tools, perhaps just focusing on improving our work. My expectations for this module were high, as I anticipated learning how to improve my teaching skills to become a better teacher and make my classes more engaging and successful.

During this module, we learned about and practiced with many AI apps and tools that can be used to enhance and develop the four macro skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. I particularly liked that we learned how to create specific activities focused on improving a particular skill. For example, sometimes we need a reading on a specific topic and cannot find one that adapts to our needs; now, we can create one, and moreover, we can also create practices based on that reading. There are a variety of tools we can use for this. Some tools are specialized for one task, but they are truly helpful. Some of these tools include Notebook LM, Read Theory, Twee, Eleven Labs, Ttsmp3, Quillbot, Gliglish, Talkpal, Grammarly, Copilot, and Gemini integration in Docs, among many others. This was truly awesome to me because now I believe I can improve the activities I develop in class, and I can create unique and appropriate material for my students. In addition, I think it can be greatly beneficial for increasing our creativity in the creation of teaching material, which will make our job easier, faster, and more enjoyable. This module was incredible because I learned many useful things. The knowledge I gained will certainly help me to become a better teacher.

Personally, I used to have trouble finding activities that I liked to use during my classes, and I felt that my classes were becoming monotonous and boring. For that reason, I was really worried, but now I feel more confident because I will definitely use AI to create material for my classes, especially for listening activities. Evidently, I believe that if we use AI in the appropriate way, we can become more powerful teachers and have successful classes.

Material created by me during module two

I created these two audio files for a listening activity. I was looking for audio files and practices, but  I couldn't find them. So I decided to create them with ELEVEN LABS.

I created these two readings using Gemini. Then, I used them to create the previous audio files. And I saved the transcription in case it is necessary.

  2. Hi, Heimy!
I was reading your blog, and I like how you listed the applications we learned to use in Module 2. As you said, they help us and will continue to help us create unique materials for our classes. For example, I'm fascinated with ELEVEN LABS and TTSMP3.com; by just providing a reading, they can create incredible audios and podcasts that can be very useful for a listening activity. Just don't forget the importance of also teaching these amazing tools to our students so they can use them for homework assigments or specific in-class activities.
Your AI-created content is truly incredible; Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a world full of surprises.
You've done an excellent job, congratulations!
